About

Reading Club is an after-school program for third graders at Longfellow and Grissom Elementary schools. It takes place in small groups (3 – 5 students), with each volunteer working in pairs. Groups will work on shared reading, activities, writing, and other activities designed to boost student reading abilities. While United Way does have lesson plans available, we encourage volunteers in Reading Club to get creative and tailor their activities to the needs and to the interests of the students in each group. Opportunities available Tuesday at Grissom Elementary from 2:30 to 4:15 PM and Wednesday at Longfellow Elementary from 2:30 to 4:15 PM. Volunteers will be required to complete a Muncie Community Schools volunteer application, available for pickup at the Muncie Community Schools Administrative Building at 2500 N. Elgin St. We ask volunteers to dress appropriately for an elementary school setting - no revealing clothing or clothing containing offensive language or imagery.
