Reading Club focuses on preparing at-risk 3rd grade students for the more complex reading materials found in 4th grade. Our mission is to break the cycle of generational poverty by giving our students the reading skills needed to succeed as they progress through school. Volunteers will read and complete reading comprehension activities with a small group of 3rd grade students after school once a week, as well as serve as a positive and stable role model in the lives of these at-risk children. Reading Club meets during the school year at Grissom Elementary on Tuesdays, Longfellow Elementary on Wednesdays, and South View Elementary on Thursdays. Volunteers can choose whichever Club they would like, provided they attend the same Club each week for a semester.
