This week we made Valentine's Day Cards with the children and had a lot of fun with that. I got to learn more about what the children are interested in and we talked about Pokemon and our favorite movies. It was a lot of fun!
Muncie Animal Care- washing the dog and cat bowls was fun and I could see the impact we were making (dishes were constantly being taken away to feed new animals, so we knew we were helping). However, once we were done, we were not given clear instructions on what to do next. That part was very confusing, otherwise it was good.
The leaders were very helpful and friendly once we got to the site with all of the children. There was a bit of confusion on where to go and times, but other than that it was a great experience. The creative activity with creating Ball State cardinals was fun, and the children enjoyed it too. We told knock knock jokes to pass the time, which created a fun (and funny) environment while crafting.
*Sorry about the change, I did not confirm the impact correctly.
Training was very informative overall. It was engaging and the trainers were very helpful and created a productive discussion. However, there was no clear training on the basics of where to park or where we would be volunteering at.
The Worthen Clean Up Day was fun! Going to the basketball game before hand was a fantastic bonding experience.
Volunteering for Secret Families:
The gift wrapping was a lot of fun, but it was very crowded and stressful at times. There was a lot of chaos, but I loved bonding with everyone over our gift wrapping skills.
Sunday-Funday Friendship Bracelets:
I had a fun time making these bracelets for children. It was actually a great stress reliever and it is was awesome to see how many bracelets we all made at the end that children would receive. This would be a fun thing to do again in the future!
This event has been one of my favorite things to participate in so far. I loved how we got to show up, get a costume and just go scare people. I had a lot of fun in the asylum room. This is an event I would love to volunteer at next year!
Volunteering on a weekly basis for the Muncie Animal Care on Thursdays from 3:30 to 4:30pm:
I love working with animals so this was a great opportunity for me. I enjoyed working with the cats ( I did not get to work with the dogs at all). The only area of improvement I would like to see is that the shelter never was prepared for when we came to visit. I realize HACE was in contact multiple times, but each time we went it was like they were surprised and had a hard time finding things for us to do. I do not know how this can be improved if HACE was trying to communicate with the group, but that was the only downside I saw.
P.S. I am putting the start day and end day of volunteering from the semester, but only putting in the amount of hours I volunteered at.
