We began to collect supplies for the upcoming holiday, Valentine's Day. We plan on going to another after school program as well as stopping at a local Muncie shelter and helping decorate next week to get everyone into the spirit. We got streamers and heart shaped candies, but we are waiting on any food based items.
We took the extra food after a shift and brought it to a local after school program for middle school aged children. Things like cookies, lemonade, and six inch sandwiches were provided for these kids, since it was the beginning of the new semester.
I went around with my coworkers and put up Christmas decorations for local shelters and churches, as well as brought sandwich platters to those places. They enjoyed spending time with the workers and we were able to talk about what we were looking forward to for the upcoming holiday.
I went around Muncie with the managers of my Subway and helped collect food for the food pantry to prepare for Thanksgiving. I was able to meet more members of the community as well as become closer to my coworkers at Subway.
Since I currently work at the Subway in downtown Muncie, I asked what volunteering opportunities there were that they were aware of in order to get my community service hours. My managers suggested that I get community service hours through Subway, since I work there and it is a good way to give back, as well as get closer to the managers and other coworkers at Subway. One of the tasks we did was to go different spots within Muncie and decorate them for the upcoming holidays, those being Halloween (mainly for kids), and Thanksgiving. A group of us decorated local areas with cute halloween decorations, such as jack-o-lanterns and skeletons. For Thanksgiving decorations, we did little pilgrims as well as plastic food items from the first thanksgiving. In general, it was an overall fun experience and I am glad I am apart of the Subway experience.
I had to cut and fold papers for goody bags that Second Harvest was passing out to volunteers.
I helped package food to be taken to different locations that Second Harvest visits. It was very fun, since I was with another sister and she was there for the first time.
I enjoyed playing with the dogs and also seeing all the cats play with each other
I had to move potatoes and it was honestly very gross because a lot of the potatoes were mushy. I enjoyed spending time with other people who were volunteering.
