There was not too much needed for me to do. I stood by the door and made sure everyone entering the building had on masks. I would politely give the people who didn't have masks a nice black mask.
I was assigned to AID station 3 with two older gentlemen. We set up a table with small snacks and drinks for the runners. This included gummy electrolytes, espresso beans, salted chopped potatoes, protein meat sticks, Gatorade, and of course, water. I was able to provide for a community event and encourage the participants on their run. I really enjoyed being outside in nature.
A group of volunteers and I were split up into groups of eight and assigned different neighborhoods in Springfield. We were each given the task of going house to house trick-or-treating for canned goods. We then brought these canned goods to the Bear Pantry and assorted them by category.
I helped distribute candy and face shields to kids and their families while dressed up as a banana. I really enjoyed seeing all of the kid's costumes. I had fun being called "banana man" by all of the kids.
On this day I and a few other volunteers drove to Crosslines of Springfield with Tyler Richter of the Christian Campus House. I first helped stock the front pantry with many different foods. There were canned foods, cheese, milk, butter, meats, loaves of bread, and other things besides food a household needs. After this, I helped organize canned foods by category of food and made sure to dispose of expired foods. It made me feel happy to help an organization dedicated to making sure people don't have to worry about food.
I had a fun time helping set up food donations for the community of Springfield. It makes me happy to know that I helped in the assistance of food distribution to a local community. It also made me happy to see other people of all ages helping out for the community.
